Sir Elton John Endorsement

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you to bring to your attention a most worthy cause. In March 2007 a group of three Oxford University students will be cycling from Paris to Istanbul in aid of a Thai HIV charity, Living & Loving. The team approached me for endorsement for their project and I would like to show my whole-hearted support for this worthwhile cause. I am delighted to see students today engaging in the fight against HIV and raising both funds and awareness of this global humanitarian crisis.

As you may know, through my foundation, the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF), I have had significant involvement in innovative HIV/AIDS prevention education programs as well as the provision of direct care and support services to people living with this chronic illness. Since its founding, EJAF has raised over $100 million to support worthy programs in 55 countries around the globe.

Living & Loving, as a charitable organization, combines many of the fundamental aspects of the contemporary fight against HIV. It looks after orphaned children born with HIV and aims to re-house, reformulate family units, treat and educate this particularly afflicted group. Thailand is particularly suited to this type of project, as Antiretroviral Treatment is provided by the state free of charge, as long as sufferers have a permanent address. It is here that the importance of re-housing and the reformulation of family units lies, as once this is achieved treatment can easily be obtained. This year the charity aims to look after 500 children in 3 centers across Thailand, with expansion planned for the coming years.

I would implore you to offer any available support to this most worthy cause, which I believe will have a direct impact upon the lives of many HIV-sufferers. It will also play a growing part in raising awareness of the fight against HIV in children in the developing world.

Thank you in advance for your support.
